동화: 어둠의 마을과 작은 빛

 

 

옛날 옛날, 아주 멀리 떨어진 곳에 빛의 마을이 있었어요.

이 마을 사람들은 서로를 돕고 아끼며 평화롭게 살았습니다.

집집마다 창문에는 작은 등불이 켜져 있었고,

그 불빛은 밤마다 온 마을을 따뜻하게 비추었지요.

그런데 어느 날, 마을 한쪽에 이상한 그림자가 나타났습니다.

그림자가 지나가면 등불이 하나씩 꺼지고,

사람들 사이에는 싸움과 미움이 싹트기 시작했어요.

아이 누리는 겁에 질려 할머니에게 물었습니다.

“할머니, 왜 우리 마을에 이런 어둠이 생긴 거예요?

왜 악한 일들이 일어나죠?”

할머니는 잠시 생각하다가 작은 등불을 켰습니다.

그리고 조용히 말했어요.

“누리야, 빛이 있으려면 어둠도 함께 있어야 한단다.”

누리는 눈을 동그랗게 뜨고 물었어요.

“하지만 어둠이 없다면 더 좋은 거 아닌가요?

아무도 다치지 않고 모두가 행복할 텐데요!”

첫 번째 깨달음: 빛의 가치

할머니는 누리를 데리고 밖으로 나갔습니다.

깜깜한 밤하늘 아래에서 등불 하나를 들어 보이며 말했어요.

“이 작은 불빛이 보이니?”

“네, 잘 보여요! 아주 밝아요.”

누리가 대답했어요.

할머니는 등불을 끄더니 다시 말했어요.

“만약 세상이 온통 밝기만 하다면

이 등불의 빛은 눈에 띄지 않을 거야.

어둠 속에서만 빛은 진짜 빛나게 되는 법이지.”

누리는 그제야 조금 이해가 갔습니다.

“그러니까… 어둠이 있기 때문에 빛이 더 소중해지는 거군요?”

할머니가 고개를 끄덕였어요.

“그래, 선이 빛이라면, 악은 어둠이란다.

악이 없다면, 우리가 선이 무엇인지도 모를지도 몰라.”

두 번째 깨달음: 선택의 힘

하지만 누리는 아직도 마음이 무거웠습니다.

“그렇다고 해도, 악한 일들이 계속 생기는 건 너무 싫어요.”

할머니는 누리의 손을 꼭 잡으며 말했어요.

“악이 있다는 건 우리가 선택할 기회를 가지고 있다는 뜻이야.”

“선택이요?”

“응. 만약 세상에 오직 빛만 있다면,

사람들은 그냥 빛 속에서 자동으로 살아갈 거야.

하지만 어둠이 있다면, 우리는 빛을 택할지, 어둠을 택할지

스스로 결정할 수 있단다.”

누리는 그제야 눈이 반짝였습니다.

“아, 그래서 우리가 착한 마음을 고를 수 있는 거군요!”

할머니는 따뜻하게 웃었습니다.

“맞아, 누리야. 악이란 우리가 빛을 선택할 수 있도록 돕는 그림자일 뿐이란다.”

마지막 깨달음: 작은 빛의 시작

다음 날, 누리는 마을 사람들을 모아 작은 등불을 나누어 주었습니다.

그리고 말했어요.

“우리가 서로의 마음에 작은 불을 켜면,

아무리 큰 어둠이 와도 이길 수 있어요!”

사람들은 함께 등불을 켰습니다.

마을 곳곳에 불빛이 하나씩 번지기 시작했고,

그림자는 점점 작아지다가 사라졌습니다.

마지막으로 누리는 하늘을 보며 속삭였어요.

“악은 어둠이지만,

우리가 함께한다면 그 어둠 속에서도

빛은 더 빛나게 될 거야.”

The Dark Village and the Little Light

 

A long time ago, far away, there was a beautiful place called the Village of Light where people lived happily, helping and caring for one another, and in every house, a small lantern glowed softly in the window, filling the whole village with warmth each night. But one day, a strange dark shadow crept into the village, and as it passed by, the lanterns flickered and went out one by one, and where there had been laughter and kindness, quarrels and hatred began to grow among the villagers. In a small house at the edge of the village, a little girl named Nuri sat beside her grandmother and asked with fear in her voice, “Grandmother, why has this darkness come to our village? Why are bad things happening?” Grandmother thought for a moment and then answered softly, and Nuri’s eyes grew wide as she said, “But wouldn’t it be better if there were no darkness at all? If there were no darkness, no one would ever be hurt!” That night, Grandmother took Nuri outside under the dark sky and lit a small lantern, and the tiny flame glowed brightly, pushing back the darkness. “Look at this light, Nuri,” she said. “It shines so beautifully because it is surrounded by darkness. If the whole world were bright, you would never notice this small flame.” Nuri nodded slowly and said, “Light is like goodness, and darkness is like evil. If there were no darkness, we might not even know what goodness is.” Even so, her heart felt heavy, and she whispered, “But Grandmother, I still don’t like bad things.” Grandmother held her hands gently and said, “Evil exists to give us a choice. If there were only light, people would just live in it without thinking, but because there is darkness, we can choose to follow the light.” Nuri’s eyes sparkled as she understood, and she said, “Oh! So even when there’s darkness, we can decide to be kind and bring light to others.” Grandmother smiled and said, “Yes, Nuri, evil is only a shadow that helps us see and choose the light.” The next day, Nuri gathered all the villagers together in the town square, and each person carried an unlit lantern. Nuri lit her lantern first and passed the flame to the person beside her, and they passed it to the next, and so on, until one by one, the lanterns began to glow. As the warm light spread throughout the village, the darkness grew smaller and smaller until it vanished completely. That night, Nuri stood beneath the starry sky, holding her lantern close to her heart, and she whispered softly, “Evil may be darkness, but if we stand together, our light will shine even brighter in the dark.” And from that day on, the Village of Light glowed brighter than ever before
