오늘 소개할 앨범의 주인공은 미국 출신으로 포크며 블루스 가수인 마리아 멀다우르( Maria Muldaur, 본명 Maria Grazia Rosa Domenica D'Amato , 1943년 9월 12일)랍니다.

60년대 보스턴의 포크 음악 현장에서 시작한 Maria Muldaur는 처음에는 Jim Kweskin Jug Band, 그 다음에는 당시 남편이었던 Geoff Muldaur와 함께 다양한 미국 음악을 계속 탐구해 왔는데요.

70년대는 그녀의 데뷔 솔로 앨범과 싱글 "Midnight at the Oasis"의 발매로 상업적인 성공을 거두었고 80년대에는 재즈, 가스펠, 스윙에 전념한 녹음 세트를 발매했고, 90년대 앨범은 뉴올리언스와 블루스에 대한 그녀의 사랑을 보여주는 녹음들을 많이 했다는군요.

그녀의 2005년 릴리스 Sweet Lovin' Ol' Soul 은 Blues Music Award (이전의 WC Handy Award)와 전통적 블루스 부문 그래미 상 후보에 올랐다. 2013년에 그녀는 Koko Taylor Award (Traditional Blues Female) 부문에서 Blues Music Award 후보로 지명될 정도였다니 그 인기를 가히 짐작할 수 있겠죠.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

오늘은 2003년에 발매된 그녀의 앨범 A Woman Alone With The Blues (...Remembering Peggy Lee)를 감상해볼까요?

70년 이상 미국의 재즈 및 대중 음악 가수이자 작곡가였던 Peggy Lee (Norma Deloris Egstrom/1920년 5월 26일 – 2002년 1월 21일)는 지역 라디오에서 보컬로 시작해 Benny Goodman의 빅 밴드와 함께 노래하기까지 Lee는 세련된 페르소나를 만들어냈고 영화 음악을 쓰고 연기를 하고 시와 음악을 결합한 개념적 레코드 앨범을 녹음했던, 다. 1,100명 이상의 마스터들과 녹음했고 270개 이상의 노래를 작곡했던 우리에게 익숙한 재즈 뮤지션에게 헌정되는 앨범이랍니다.
