왜 철학을 공부하는가?

 

 

 

 

질문의 작은 등불

 

옛날 옛날, 한 작은 마을에 호기심 많은 아이가 살고 있었어요.

아이에게는 궁금한 게 참 많았지요.

“왜 태양은 저렇게 밝을까?”

“사람들은 왜 가끔 싸울까?”

“나는 왜 착하게 살아야 할까?”

어른들은 미소를 지었지만, 대답을 잘 모를 때가 많았어요.

어느 날, 아이는 작은 등불을 든 여행자를 만났어요.

등불은 크지 않았지만 따뜻하고 부드러운 빛을 내고 있었지요.

“그 등불은 뭐예요?” 아이가 물었어요.

여행자가 말했어요.

“이건 철학이라는 등불이란다. 모든 답을 알려주진 않아.

하지만 세상이 어둡고 혼란스러울 때 길을 비춰 주지.”

아이에게 등불이 주어졌을 때, 놀라운 일이 일어났어요.

질문을 하면 등불이 더 밝아졌고,

다른 사람의 이야기를 들으면 빛이 넓게 퍼졌으며,

깊이 생각하면 새로운 길이 드러났어요.

그제야 아이는 깨달았어요.

철학은 하나의 정답을 찾는 공부가 아니라,

질문하고, 듣고, 함께 길을 걸어가는 힘이라는 것을요.

그 후로 아이는 철학의 등불을 들고 세상을 탐험했어요.

세상은 여전히 신비와 이야기로 가득 차 있었고,

아이의 길은 언제나 질문의 빛으로 환히 밝혀졌답니다.

The Little Lantern of Questions

 

 

Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a curious child.

The child had many questions.

“Why is the sun so bright?”

“Why do people sometimes fight?”

“Why should I live kindly?”

The grown-ups smiled, but often did not know the answers.

One day, the child met a traveler carrying a small lantern.

The lantern was not big, but it glowed with a warm and gentle light.

“What is that lantern?” the child asked.

The traveler said,

“This lantern is called Philosophy. It doesn’t give you every answer.

But when the world feels dark or confusing, it lights your way.”

When the child held the lantern, something amazing happened:

Whenever the child asked a question, the lantern grew brighter.

When the child listened to others, the light spread wider.

And when the child thought deeply, new paths appeared in the glow.

Then the child understood:

Philosophy is not about finding one final answer.

It is about asking, listening, and walking together with the light of questions.

From then on, the child explored the world with the lantern of philosophy.

The world was still full of mysteries and stories—

but the child’s path was always bright with the light of questions.
