"Alone Together"는 Howard Dietz의 가사에 Arthur Schwartz가 작곡했다. 1932년 Jean Sargent에 의해 브로드웨이 뮤지컬 Flying Colors에 소개되었다. 이 노래는 곧 1932년 Leo Reisman and His Orchestra의 녹음이 히트를 쳐 처음으로 차트에 올랐다. Schwartz 와 Dietz의 콜라보가 가장 인기가 있으며 재즈 스탠더드가 되었다. 이 곡을 처음으로 녹음한 재즈 음악가는 1939년 Artie Shaw였다.
“Alone Together”는 매우 불안정한 곡조이다. 그것은 종종 Gene Harris and the Three Sounds (1960년의 앨범 Blue Hour를 녹음하는 세션 동안에)와 함께 녹음했던 1960년대의 Stanley Turrentine이 보여주었던 멋진 중간 템포를 가지고 딱딱한 스윙의 톤으로 연주되어진다. 한편 Jim Hall과 Ron Carter는 그들의 1972년 앨범 (Alone Together)을 듀오로 녹음해 한 획을 긋게 했던 좀 더 느긋하면서도 상호 교감적인 태도로 어떻게 연주될 수 있는지를 보여주었다. 이 곡의 전통적인 개념으로 보다 발라드적 요소를 보여주는 것은 1955년 라이브 공연인 아트 블레이키의 Jazz Messengers (At the Cafe Bohemia, Vol. 1)에서 Hank Mobley의 멋진 연주이다.
