오늘의 앨범 Dinah Jams은 블루스와 재즈 디바, 다이아나 워싱턴(Dinah Washington)의 라이브 실황 앨범으로 [Dinah Washington With Clifford Brown]이라는 이름으로 1990년도에 리마스터되어 발매되기도 했는데요.

이 앨범이 녹음된 1954년은 Dinah Washington이 막 명성을 얻기 시작했던 즈음으로

블루스를 기반으로 발라드와 스윙적 요소를 결합한

개성 있는 워싱턴의 보컬에

당시 최고봉에 있었던 세션 연주자들인 트럼펫 연주자 클리포드 브라운(Clifford Brown),

클라크 테리(Clark Terry), 그리고 맥스 로치(Max Roach) 등이 참여했는데요.

Maynard Ferguson - "Summertime"Don't let the photo fool you--though this is a track from the live album Dinah Jams! there is no vocal on this track save for the wildly enthusiastic audience. August 14, 1954, in Los Angeles, among Clifford Brown and Max Roach's Tentet (with Brown and Clark Terry on trumpet, Roach on Drums, and Keter Betts on bass, among others), Maynard tore off a dizzyingly atmospheric (stratospheric?) "Summertime" that had the audience screaming with approval. Yeah, it's showy as hell, as Maynard loved to be, but look how much style and appreciation for the melody there is underneath. He could blow fireworks out of his horn like that because he knew the foundation of what he was doing, and he understood music inside out. They don't make 'em like that anymore.www.youtube.com
