‘김씨 표류기’.
영화 ‘김씨 표류기’ 리뷰
영화 '김씨 표류기'는 2009년 감독 이해준의 작품으로 정재영과 정려원을 주인공으로 하고 있다
주인공 김성근(정재영 분)은 회사가 파산하자 많은 빚을 지게 되고 자살을 시도하지만 한강의 작은 무인도에 도착해 도심 속에서 고립된 채 생존하게 된다
우연히 방 안에 틀어박혀 세상과 단절된 채 살아가던 여자
김정연(정려원 분)이 우연히 망원경으로 그를 발견하며 편지를 주고받으며 다시 사회적 관계의 재출발을 보여주는 내용으로 전개된다.
처음 영화의 제목만 들었을 때는 부담 없이 볼 수 있는 코믹 영화쯤으로만 짐작했는데 영화를 볼수록 놀랐고 점점 빠져들었다
독특한 설정으로 시작된 영화는 "Who are you?“ 또는 "How are you?"라고 물으며 관객들에게 존재에 대한 철학적 질문을 하다니!
남자도 여자도 자의든 타의든 세상으로부터 고립된 즉 현대 사회에서의 소외와 인간 간의 관계 회복을 테마로 하는 영화인데
나는 이 영화의 키워드를 “당신은 누구십니까?”와 “당신은 잘 살고 있습니까?”라고 읽었다
아마도 내 인생 전체를 통들어 나 자신에게 가장 많이 물으며 대답하고자 했던 질문이었음을 이 영화를 통해 다시 한 번 통감했다
영화의 간단한 줄거리 속에 이렇듯 심오한, 메시지를 코믹하게, 때론 아무렇지 않은 듯 풀어내는 감독의 역량에 어찌 박수를 치지 않을 수 있을까?
또한 영화에서 가장 놀라웠던 상징은 짜파게티의 출현이었다
영화 속 주인공 남자는 생을 비관해 자살하려고 했지만 한강 주변의 무인섬에 도착해 사회로부터 단절되어 살아가다가 짜파게티 봉지를 발견하게 된다
자살을 결심하기 전 아마 그는 일상적으로 많은 사람들처럼 짜파게티를 소비하며 살았을 것이다
그가 무인섬에서 짜파게티를 먹기 위해, 즉 짜파게티를 먹겠다는 일념으로 옥수수를 키우겠다는 의지를 보이는데
이는 자신의 평범했던 일상으로의 귀환에 대한 의지의 상징도 되겠지만
우리가 살아내는 평범한 일상이 얼마나 소중하며 의미가 있는지에 대한 상징일 것도 같고
한편으로는 그러한 평범한 일상을 되찾기 위한 주인공의 삶을 향한 생존 의지를 보여주는 본능적 생존 욕구가 인간을 인간답게 만드는 구나 고개를 끄덕이지 않을 수 없었으며 그 독창적 표현에 감탄했다
더불어 남자 주인공(정재영)을 관찰하던 은둔녀인 여주인공(정려원)이 옥수수를 키우는 키트를 자신의 어머니에게 부탁하는데
이는 여주인공도 이제 철저한 고립에서 벗어나기 위해 무엇인가에 대한 희망을 키우며
타인과의 연결고리를 찾음으로써 다시 관계의 프레임 안으로 들어오게 하는 상징적 의미일 것이다
이러한 블랙 코미디의 짙은 향기가 왜 그리 감동적으로 다가왔는지
영화는 자아 찾기와 자기 회복, 소외감, 자연과 문명의 대조를 바탕으로
결국 인간이 어떤 것에 의해서라도 살겠다는 희망을 가질 수 있다는 것은 바로 인간다움이고
이것을 잃지 않는 한 인간은 언제든, 어떤 상황이든 늘 재출발할 수 있다는 희망적인 메시지를 전하는 것도 같았다.
더불어 좌절을 겪는 많은 사람들에게 "어떠십니까? 힘드시다면 작은 일상에서 의미를 찾으며 다시 시작해 보시지 않겠습니까?”라고 무심한 듯 던지는 한 조각의 명언이 아닐까?
마지막으로 “아무도 없으면 외롭지 않으니까요 ”라고 말하는, 외부 세계와의 접촉에서 오는 두려움과 불안 때문에 스스로를 방 안에 가둔 채 살아가고 있는 여자 주인공의 심정에 동의하고 싶은 이유는 무엇일까?
한 인간에게 “아무도 없다”는 것은 곧 외부의 시선이나 기대, 상처로부터 자유로울 수 있음을 의미하는 것일 터인데
타인과의 관계에서 비롯되는 외로움과 상처를 피하기 위해, 오히려 고립된 상태를 유지하는 것이 더 편안하고 안전하다고 느꼈을 여주인공의 심리가 백배
공감되었던 것은 나의 과거도 현재와 어쩌면 미래까지일지도 모를 나만의 정신적, 물리적 공간에서 스스로를 지켜내야 하는 한 방법이었음을 자인할 수밖에 없었던 순간이었다.
이는 이 영화가 썩소를 날리며 나에게 걸어왔던 말이었으므로 가슴이 멍멍하기도 했다.
“인생 뭐 별거 있어? 그냥 아웅다웅 살아 ” 자꾸만 나의 등을 토닥일 것만 같았다
그러나 나에게 이 영화의 가장 큰 의미는 처음부터 없었던 것처럼 사라지길 원했던 시절의 아픔이 다시 반추되며
그래도 아직 사라지지 않고 어떡게든 살아내고 있는 나에게 보내는 응원의 메세지였음에 그저 웃는다
마지막 자막 스크린이 올라가는 순간 저는 주인공들이 손을 마주 잡는 것을 보며 “그래, 지금처럼만 살자” 가만가만 나에게 말했다
나에게 그 장면은고립을 벗어나 인간들이 취할 수 있는 사회적 관계의 재출발보다는 삶의 끈을 어떻게든 이어보려는 인간 본능적인 삶의 욕구로 읽히는지?
아마도 그것은 자꾸만 무너지려고 했던 순간에도 어떡하든 꾸역꾸역 살아왔던 내 자신에게 한 번 더 살아 보라고, 더 잘 살아 보라고 무심한 듯 말하는 누군가의 낮은 목소리로 들렸다.
“여하튼 고마웠어요 모든 것들이 축복처럼 여기지는 시간, 그리고 잘 살게요" 그날 밤 잠을 청하며 내가 뇌까렸던 말들이었다
고맙습니다.
Review of the movie 'Castaway on the Moon'
The movie 'Castaway on the Moon' is a 2009 film directed by Lee Hae-jun, starring Jung Jae-young and Jung Ryeo-won.
The protagonist Kim Seong-geun(Played by Jung Jae-young) incurs a lot of debt when his company goes bankrupt and attempts suicide, but ends up on a small uninhabited island in the Han River, surviving in isolation in the middle of the city.
The story unfolds as a woman named Kim Jung-yeon(played Jung Ryeo-won), who lives isolated from the world in her room,
accidentally discovers him through a telescope and they start exchanging letters, showing a restart of social relationships.
When I first heard the title of the movie, I thought it would be a light-hearted comedy, but the more I watched, the more surprised and engrossed I became.
The movie, which starts with a unique setting, asks philosophical questions about existence, such as "Who are you?" or "How are you?".
The film, which deals with the theme of isolation from the world, whether voluntary or involuntary, and the recovery of human relationships in modern society.
I read the keywords of this movie as "Who are you?" and "Are you living well?"
Through this movie, I once again realized that these were the questions I had asked myself the most throughout my life.
How can I not applaud the director's ability to convey such profound messages in a simple storyline, sometimes comically and sometimes nonchalantly?
Also, The most surprising symbol in the movie was the appearance of Jjapatetti.
The protagoinst in the movie, who was pessimistic about life and tried to commit suicide, ends up on an uninhabited island near the Han River, living isolated from society, and discovers a packet of Jjpagetti.
Before deciding to commit suicide, he probably consumed Jjapagetti like many people in his daily life.
On the uninhabited island, he shows the determination to grow corn to eat Jjipagetti, driven by the single-minded desire to eat it.
This can be seen as a symbol of his ordinary daily life.
It may also symbolize how precious and meaningful our ordinary daily lives are,
On the other hand, it shows the protagonist's instinctive survival desire to regain such an ordinary daily life, which makes humans human, and I couldn't helf but nod in agreement and admire the unique expression.
Additionlly, the female protagonist(Jung Ryeo-won), who was observing the male protagonist(Jung Jae-young), asks he mother for a corn-growing kit.
This symbolizes that the female protagonist is also nurturing hope to escape from complete isolation.
It symbolizes her attempt to find a connection with others and re-enter the frame of relationships.
Why did the deep scent of this black comedy come across so emotionally?
The movie is based on themes of self-discovery, self-recovery, alienation, and the contrast between nature and civiliaztion.
Ultimately, the hope that humans can live through anything is what makes us human.
As long as we don't lose this, humans can always restart in any situation, coneying hopeful message.
Additionally, it seems to nonchalantly throw a piece of wisdom to many people experiencing frustration, saying, "How are you? If you're struggling, why not find meaning in small daily things and start again?"
Lastly, why do I want to agree with the female protagonist's sentiment of saying, "It's not lonely if there's no one." as she lives confined in her room due to fear and anxiety from contact with the outside world.
For a person, "no one" means being free from external views, expectations, and wounds.
The heroine's psychology of feeling more comfortable and safe in isolation to avoid the loneliness and hurt that come from relationships with others was something I could fully empathize with.
It was a moment when I had to admit that it was a way to protect myself in my own mental and physical space, which might to my past, present, and perhaps even my future.
The movie's scrcastic smile and words left me feeling hollow.
"What's life anyway? Just live it, " It seems to pat my back repeatedly.
However, the greatest meaning of this movie for me was the reflection of the pain from the times I wished to disappear as if I never existed.
Yet, it was a message of encouragement to me, who is still surviving somehow, and I just smiled.
As the final credits rolled up, I saw the protagonists holding hands and quietly told myself, "Yes, let's live just like this."
To me, that scene read more as a human instinct to somehow continue the thread of life rather than a social restart from isolation.
Perhaps it is like a low voice telling me, who had been struggling to survive even in moments of collapse, to live once more, to live better.
"Anyway, thank you. Everything feels like a blessing, and I will live well." were the words I muttered to myself as I tried to sleep that night.
